Pulau Ubin 2010
Tuesday, March 30, 2010

The long awaited day had finally arrived! It felt as if we had been waiting for years. Sir Azam, our English teacher, had organized a special trip for us Sec 4s, Sec 5s and Pre-U students to Pulau Ubin. We were assigned to clean up the beach there, create a blog regarding the trip, and the most important of all, to have a whole lot of fun! We were really loaded for a bear as we were already informed of what to expect there. Although buses were scheduled for us at school to transport us to Changi jetty, we decided to proceed directly to the jetty as we were bringing our own bicycles along.

10.15 am

We were queuing eagerly for our ferry ride to our destination. Even though we had been to Ubin for several times before, we could sense that it would be a totally different experience going with our schoolmates. That Thursday morning was filled with nothing but exhilarating atmosphere. We were also distributed a packet of nasi lemak/sambal goreng for our meal later on sponsored by our beloved Sir Azam. =)

As we were busy chatting about the activities we were going to do later on, our ride arrived. It was just a 7 minutes journey.

As soon as we stepped foot on the island, we started to capture some pictures at the welcoming sign. While the others were busy renting their bikes, we were already on our way to the village wanting to pose at the kampung houses with our baju Kurung on.

10.30 am

This two pictures(which are the same) has a well by the side of the house where all the water that villagers use are taken mostly from here.

The shops that we passed by along our way..
A house above the sea. Can't find that in Singapore huh? =)

Next, we cycled in groups towards the beach capturing photos with the beautiful nature along the way. The interesting part of the route was the uphill’s and downhill’s. A mini race was always declared amongst us whenever a hill was spotted. The journey was quite a distant, so we had a few checkpoints to regenerate our energies. Our first checkpoint was at Murai where we have our snacks and a 5 minutes break.

Everything was going fine until Mujahid's bicycle chain dislocated. Four of us stayed back to lend a hand. We managed to fix it; however, we were left far behind by the group. We tried catching up but soon found out that we were on the wrong track. For about 30 minutes we rounded in circle when we finally came across another lost group consisting Mdm Hidayu and Sir Mustaffa. By the time, we were all ran out of water. We were harshly exhausted.

11.05 am

The seniors were trying their best to lead us to the beach. We cycled exhaustively for about 20 minutes more when we reached the upper part of the hill called Jalan Noordin. Finally....we made it to the Kampung Noordin beach!! The air up there was so refreshing! Not to mention the admirable scenery of the trees, fluffy clouds and the clear blue sea. With hornbills flying around and the absence of bustling traffic was just making the place more perfect. It possesses such a harsh beauty that our energies were magically rejuvenated!

We posed around for photo taking, threw some rocks into the sea(fun!), and had our breakfast before resuming our journey.12 noon

Washing my hands with sea water. *that's unusual for a city boy.. =p
Not only we went to Pulau Ubin to have fun, we also did some community work; picking up litters by the beach.
After knowing the beach is clean. It's time for us to shoot some photos by the beach. =D

Teacher Abd Rahman..

Mr. Azam
Not only us that were chilling by the sea.
Some Mongrels are lazing around as well

The trip was halfway through and we already had so much fun..
We even had new experience. Some even fall from their bicycles and injure themselves.
xD

We stumbled upon this sign, and all of us took a break and refill our water bottles here.

Most people only know that Pulau Ubin is just a village but, there is more in Pulau Ubin if YOU try to discover by yourself. For me, I found this "lagoon" which has alot of activities that we could do, such as rock climbing, swimming, and even party.
Next Stop was Chek Jawa. This is the furthest place that we went. Knowing only a few would want to go as the place was at the far end of Pulau Ubin.

Chek Jawa is a visitor centre and the beauty of the Chek Jawa can be enjoyed by the board walk. Therefore all of us parked our bicycles here and went for a long walk.

The information Counter.
I was asking on how to go to the boardwalk and also the best view that we can get which is the The Viewing Tower.
The viewing tower!

The board walk.
Inside this house are some information about the history of Pulau Ubin.
We did not manage to went in because of the time. It was already 2pm.
On our back to the Jetty, he met with an accident. Amir Hamzah has leg cramps and we had to wait for him. After that, the clouds turn grey and started to drizzle.
All of us ran and left our bicycles for shelter. I contacted Mr.Azam and there was no answer.
I called Teacher Samaniah and she said, there's no more students in Pulau Ubin. All of them had went back to Singapore. We were left all by ourself here. The rain did not stop and time was running out as all of us have not done our zuhur prayers. We came out with a plan. Amir Hamzah and 6 others guys took the taxi(which is a van) back to the jetty. While me(danial), Najib, Syed and Fairuzee took our bicycles and continue our journey back to Jetty as we thought, this would be the greatest experience ever. And it did! Cycling along the muddy tracks while raining heavily, only god knows how fun it was for us. Not only that, we also discover new places such as this Quarry below here. This picture costs us $2.50 as we were abandoned by our teachers and had to pay our boat rides by ourself.

Overall I must say that it is a pretty good short getaway for us

from the buzzing and hustling of the city (:

.

It was a really memorable experience for the both of us.

We would like to go there again one day and explore the more about Pulau Ubin
